Quiet Inbox 2.4 Release Notes: Faster Triage, Better Outlook Support

A smaller, faster triage script, expanded Outlook rule templates, and a fix for a scheduling bug in the follow-up tool.

Version 2.4 is out, and it's a maintenance release with a few things worth calling out. If you bought the library at any point, the update is already in your download link. No action needed beyond grabbing the new files.

The headline change is a rewrite of the triage script. The old version scanned every message in the inbox on each run, which was fine for smaller inboxes but slow once you crossed a few thousand messages. The new version keeps an index of the last scan point and only processes messages since then. On my test inbox — about 4,200 messages — the run time dropped from roughly 90 seconds to under 10. If you'd stopped running it because it felt sluggish, this is the version to try again.

Outlook support got a meaningful upgrade. The previous release had rule templates for Gmail and generic IMAP but only partial coverage for Outlook users. 2.4 adds full templates for Outlook desktop and Outlook on the web, including the multi-condition rules that were missing before. The new templates cover the five most common setups: auto-archiving notifications, labeling client domains, filtering prospect inquiries, scheduling follow-up reminders, and archiving old read mail. Each template comes with a short note on which Outlook version it was tested against.

We fixed a scheduling bug in the follow-up script that affected users in time zones outside a narrow band. The script was calculating the seven-day window from the server's local time rather than the user's, which meant follow-ups could fire a day early or a day late depending on where you were. Thanks to the three users who reported it with logs — that made the fix straightforward. The script now uses the account's configured time zone, and the behavior is consistent across regions.

There's one new addition worth mentioning. Several of you asked for a way to handle shared or delegated inboxes, where a filter needs to apply to mail arriving for a colleague rather than yourself. 2.4 includes a separate script for that case, with a setup guide that walks through the delegation settings in both Gmail and Outlook. It's a small script but it covers a gap that came up repeatedly in support email.

A few things we deliberately didn't change. The label naming conventions are the same as 2.3, so if you've already customized your filters you won't need to redo them. The setup guides are still one page each. And the license terms are unchanged: standard covers your own inbox and one client account, extended covers up to ten.

On the roadmap for 2.5: better handling of calendar invites that arrive as email, a lighter version of the triage script for people who want a single filter rather than a full system, and a short video walkthrough of the setup process. If there's something you'd like to see prioritized, reply to the update email — we read every response, even if we don't always reply quickly.

As always, the update is free and yours to keep. Download the new ZIP from your original link, replace the old files, and follow the changelog note for any settings that need to be re-applied. If something breaks, email support with your setup details and we'll sort it out.

Quiet Inbox is a small library of automation scripts built for people who bill by the hour and can't afford to lose a day to email. Each script is a focused fix: triage rules, auto-archivers, follow-up reminders, and label systems that run quietly in the background. No coding required. You download the files, follow a short setup guide, and the scripts handle the repetitive sorting so you can answer the messages that matter. Every purchase includes lifetime access and free updates. We test each script against real inboxes — Gmail, Outlook, and IMAP — before it ships. If a platform changes something, we patch it and push the update to you.
